The National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Shamila Batohi said the last six years as the prosecutions boss has been a “rollercoaster”.
Batohi, who wull retire in January, is giving evidence before the parliamentary ad hoc committee investigating corruption in the criminal justice system.
Batohi said her appointment was mainly to turn around and rebuild the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) when she took over from Shaun Abrahams.
But she said it hasn’t been an easy ride with a lack of skills and capacity.
“It’s been ups and downs, a rollercoaster for five years. But what I can say, at this point, is that the strategy was to turn around the NPA, to rebuild the NPA so that it can really serve the people of this country in the way a prosecuting authority should.”
