Police in KwaZulu-Natal have admitted to being unaware that a South African Police Service (SAPS) employee had tampered with the criminal record of Stuart Sharnick until he decided to clarify his record.
Sharnick, who publicly acknowledged he is a friend of suspended crime detection boss Shadrack Sibiya, is once again under fire with the police.

On Wednesday, he laid charges against Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khuamlo, claiming he tarnished his reputation after Khumalo listed his criminal history at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
KZN deputy provincial commissionerresponsible for crime detection Anthony Gopaul cleared up some of those charges on Thursday.
“I would only say thank you Mr Sharnick, for raising this issue because, you asked to dig into it, and we dug into to it.”
He said that if Sharnick had not laid the charges against Khumalo, they wouldn’t have looked into his record.
“We found out now that there’s this transaction took place in January because here is a person who is very confident that says, ‘no, there’s nothing like that on my record’, so we said who is lying? It is the lieutenant general who is lying now, or the system is lying? Who is lying? When one made that pronouncement in media it prompted us to go and look into this thing.”
