Police divers are still searching for a 25-year-old man believed to have gone missing at sea near the Hawston Harbour, between Hermanus and Kleinmond, in the Western Cape.
It’s understood that two people were onboard the boat when one of the fishermen disappeared in the water on Friday.
The second man made it to shore safely.
“On arrival on the scene, it was reported that the small open fishing boat, that 2 local fishermen were on, had not capsized, but one man, the 25 year old skipper of the boat from Hawston, had reportedly jumped off the boat into the water we believe to recover personal items that had fallen out of the boat, and he had not surfaced from under water,” said National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon.
Lambinon said the search and rescue operation to find the 25-year-old fisherman is expected to resume this morning.
“Police divers, assisted by NSRI, Metro EMS Rescue and Overstrand authorities, will continue in ongoing search efforts."
