Controversial businessman, Brown Mogotsi, has been accused of being a professional liar during cross-examination at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Mogotsi, who claims to be a crime Intelligence agent, has been accused of previously lying under oath.

During proceedings on Wednesday, evidence leader Advocate Matthew Chaskalson pushed Mogotsi to admit that his job required him to lie, citing specific instances contained in his statement to the commission.

Chaslkason accused Mogotsi of lying under oath before the commission.

Mogotsi previously made an 252 application for authorisation to conduct an undercover police trap, claiming he was attached to Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s office.

"Your role as an agent essentially makes you a professional liar, you lie as your job."

Mogotsi conceded that he had to lie as part of his job but claimed it must be done responsibly.

"I may not have a comprehension as lying as a profession. As an agent, there are rules. You cannot just lie if you are not on a mission."

Mogotsi will continue to be interrogated on his claims when the commission resumes on Thursday.
