Trial venue for alleged Wynberg court murderers to be decided in 2026

A decision on which court should hear the trial of the alleged Wynberg court murderers will only be made in 2026.

The five suspects linked to the April murder of Dingalomoya Chintso were back at the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The matter has been postponed to 4 February to decide whether the trial will be at the regional or high court.

Shireen Matthews, Abubaker Adams, Brian Booysen, Wanay Farao, and Vuyisani Zengethwa are all accused of having a hand in the brazen courthouse attack.

Prosecutors believe Matthews is the mastermind who orchestrated the hit on the Vrygrond taxi operator.

It's the State's case that on the day of Chintso’s murder, Matthews called her co-accused, Booysen, for him to organise guns.

During phone conversations between the pair, the State maintains that Matthews instructed Booysen to get Adams and Zengethwa to carry out the hit.

The prosecution is also confident that Matthews used an e-hailing service, and the car was apparently seen on CCTV footage dropping and picking up Booysen and the hitmen in front of the Wynberg Magistrates Court on 8 April.
