Gauteng police have made 13 arrests in connection with transgressions during the G20 Leaders' Summit.
The arrests include two members from the controversial Operation Dudula political party who were handcuffed for trespassing at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.
Four men were also arrested for robbing Vietnamese delegates of their phones and other belongings in Sandton.
Despite those incidents, the Gauteng government said the summit was a resounding success.
Speaking at a post-G20 media briefing in Johannesburg on Tuesday, the provincial Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni said roadblocks and other operations resulted in the capture of suspects wanted for various other crimes.
“Before the actual main event, the [G20] Leaders' Summit started, we had put a plan for a safer city across the province for the five districts. We had to ensure there are operational activities week in and week out in order to mitigate whatever crimes across the province.”
