The police's chief financial officer (CFO) Puleng Dimpane has told Parliament that anyone found to have been involved in malfeasance or corruption must be held accountabl, and that the law should take its course without fear or favour.

She said those who are responsible for capturing the police must be held responsible, no matter their ranking.

Dimpane also told the ad hoc committee investigating police corruption that she did not participate in any tender adjudication committees and didn't know tender corruption accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, who is set to appear before the committee on Wednesday and Thursday at the Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria.

Dimpane was questioned for hours on Tuesday by the evidence leader and members of the committee about how close her involvement was in the awarding of tenders as the police's head of finance.

Committee member Ashley Sauls also grilled Dimpane about Matlala's tender and whether it was proof that the police were captured.

“A contract was awarded to Cat Matlala. Is this proof that SAPS [South African Police Service] has been infiltrated by criminals?”

Dimpane said she can't comment on the specific tender and when the contract was awarded, there was nothing before the adjudication committee that suggested that the contract was awarded to a criminal.

“So, I can't vouch to say that SAPS is captured. I'm saying that those that are responsible for wrongdoing in SAPS must be held to account at any level without any fear or favour. Anyone who engages themselves with criminals and captures SAPS with corruption, the law must take its course.”

On the disbanding of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), Dimpane informed the committee that a document used as evidence by Senzo Mchunu which she authored, was used in bad faith.

She said she instead supported a recommendation to make the PKTT a permanent structure and didn't call for its disbandment.
