The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has launched a national road safety and commuter wellness campaign called the Hlokomela Festive Season.
This includes conducting roadworthiness checks, safety awareness activations and visiting taxi ranks.
As millions of people prepare to travel, the taxi body said it will ensure that it intensifies its presence in all provinces, especially in hotspots areas.
The campaign, launched on Sunday, is aligned with the Department of Transport’s Arrive Alive initiative.
SANTACO President Mr Motlhabane Abnar Tsebe has emphasised the council’s unwavering commitment towards commuter protection during the peak travel season.
"He says, and I quote, "Our priority is simple and clear: every commuter must arrive safely at their destination".
“The festive season increases travel volumes and risk, and SANTACO will be on the ground across the country to support road-safety operations and reinforce responsible behaviour among operators,” said SANTACO spokesperson Rebecca Phala.
