Kenny Lattimore curates 'Intimate Escape' to South Africa

An adventure specially cultivated for the enjoyment and education of American travellers has taken shape in Lattimore’s Intimate Escape to South Africa, a journey designed to immerse visitors in the heart of the rainbow nation.

Internationally acclaimed artist Kenny Lattimore, in partnership with Allons Voyage, a luxury travel company, has committed to creating a uniquely curated experience for US travellers visiting South Africa.

Speaking at a gathering at the Saxon Hotel this week, Lattimore said the collaboration aims to offer people a personalised, intimate, and reflective journey through Mzansi, one that goes far beyond the wildlife the country is often known for.

“Allyson and I had this idea of bringing tourists because, a lot of the time, people do not get to see Africa in a curated way. We wanted to make sure it is not just a trip where we get on buses and give them a runaround, but a personal journey where people get to understand the country.”

He added that travellers on the tour will visit various communities, where they will have authentic interactions with the residents they meet along the way.

Lattimore shared that his love for the continent is rooted in his upbringing. From his formative years, his mother instilled in him a deep affinity for Africa, a connection that has shaped his sense of identity. During the event, his wife, Faith Jenkins-Lattimore, spoke about this connection:

“Our home is filled with all his trips to South Africa, from the art to the photos to the places he has visited. It is a huge part of what you see when you walk into our home and what you feel.”

An emotional Jenkins-Lattimore went on to say that being part of this trip is especially meaningful, and one she hopes their children will one day experience as well.

Some guests, visiting South Africa for the first time, expressed excitement about the new adventure ahead, while returning guests spoke warmly about their deep affection for Mzansi.

The group is set to travel across the country, exploring some of South Africa’s most cherished destinations, from game reserves to art galleries.
