Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has said it'll continue to work closely with the Border Management Authority (BMA) and airlines to ensure strict adherence to South Africa’s immigration and security requirements.
This after the authority disrupted suspected human trafficking operations involving fourteen Ethiopians and sixteen Bangladeshi nationals at OR Tambo International Airport yesterday.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, ACSA says they're committed to supporting the BMA in protecting the integrity of the country's ports of entry.
The authority’s Mmemme Mogotsi says the interception followed the BMA’s analysis of passenger details which flagged their movement pattern as suspicious.
"Investigations revealed a modus operandi commonly used in human trafficking syndicates, where individuals attempt to transit through South Africa en route to neighbouring countries and later re-enter South Africa."
The authority has also commended officers involved for their vigilance.
