The search for a 13-year-old boy who went missing in the surf zone at Hole-in-the-Wall beach in the Eastern Cape will continue on Friday.
 
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) launched its rescue craft on Tuesday, beginning the extensive search for the Mthatha teenager.
 
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said that the K9 Unit has also been deployed to assist in the search.
 
"NSRI Mdumbi duty crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at Hole-in-the-Wall, Eastern Cape. Despite the extensive sea and shoreline search, there remained no sign of the teenager."

Lambinon said a helicopter is being deployed periodically to assist in the search.
 
"Police divers [Water Policing and Diving Services], police K9 Search and Rescue, and, at times, a police helicopter, assisted by EC Government Health EMS [Emergency Management Service] and by NSRI Mdumbi, are continuing in ongoing search efforts for the missing teenager."
