A 32-year-old man is set to appear in court on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in the Saulsville massacre, which claimed 12 lives and left 13 others injured.

The suspect was arrested on Monday, marking the first breakthrough for Gauteng police in the high-profile case.

He faces charges of murder and attempted murder after being identified as one of three gunmen who opened fire on patrons at an unlicensed tavern in Tshwane more than two weeks ago.

A three-year-old child was among the victims.

The suspect already appeared in the Polokwane Magistrates Court on Monday on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Gauteng police spokesperson Brenda Muridili said that it is believed the firearm found in his possession was used in the commission of the crime.

“The suspect was apprehended in Limpopo province while travelling to Botlokwa. The search for the other suspects continues.”
