Police Oversight and Community Safety acting MEC Tertuis Simmers on Monday welcomed the arrest of suspects linked to a series of gang-related shootings, murders and attempted murders in Cape Town.
Anti-Gang Unit detectives arrested the three in Manenberg, Athlone and Mitchells Plain over the weekend.
The latest incident occurred outside the Athlone Magistrates Court in December, where a man was shot and killed.
Another man was wounded minutes later in Kewtown, not far from the court.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain and Athlone magistrates courts on Monday.
Simmers urged police and the National Prosecuting Authority to swiftly investigate and prosecute the cases to ensure convictions and lengthy sentences.
“While I welcome these arrests as a positive step, we now urgently require watertight dockets to be presented to court to ensure successful prosecutions in these gang-related shootings and killings,” said Simmers
