DA mayoral candidate in Tshwane, Cilliers Brink said that it’s high time the national government enforced South Africa’s immigration laws.
In recent days, protesters have taken to the streets in Pretoria and Johannesburg over undocumented foreign nationals.
Demonstrators argued that government is turning a blind eye to what they describe as an illegal immigration crisis in the country.
Speaking to Eyewitness News, Brink said Tshwane will take action against undocumented migrants if he is elected mayor.
"It’s very important that this government enforces the immigration laws. If those laws were not appropriate, we should have reviewed them. They are there, they are appropriate, and they should be enforced. We look forward to forming an agreement with home affairs so that we use TMPD officials to enforce the law and identify individuals that must be deported," said Brink.
