Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of two women in Poortjie, south of Johannesburg.
Nontokozo Mazibuko and Andiswa Sontangane, were last seen on 30 December last year.
Their families reported them missing to the police on New Year's Eve, when their search started.
On 8 January, their partially decomposed bodies were discovered; however, there was no trace of the car they left home with.
A team of investigators managed to trace and arrest five suspects and recover an unlicensed firearm on 13 January 2026. Four of the suspects were arrested in Evaton, while the fifth one was arrested in Germiston.
The suspects are facing charges of hijacking, kidnapping, and murder.
"A preliminary investigation led the team to Brits where they discovered the victims' vehicle abandoned at a car wash. The vehicle was fixed with false number plates but had the correct disc. The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine whether it was used in the crime."
