The State has argued that Victor Majola, the man accused of orchestrating the murder of media personality Warrick Stock, should remain in custody as he poses a significant flight risk and potential threat to witnesses.
Majola, a 44-year-old Soweto taxi boss, appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday afternoon for the continuation of his bail application. The State has strongly opposed his release, with a formal decision expected early next week.
During closing arguments, Senior State Prosecutor Vincent Mochabela emphasised the gravity of the charges, noting that Majola is facing Schedule 6 offences, including conspiracy to commit murder and premeditated murder.
The prosecution alleges that Majola was the mastermind behind the killing of Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras.
"If the accused person is released on bail, there is a likelihood that he will interfere with the investigations and commit a Schedule 1 offense," Mochabela argued. "He will abscond; he won't attend court."
Throughout the proceedings, a steel-faced Majola sat calmly in the dock. He remained largely motionless, staring blankly at the ground and barely acknowledging the arguments presented by the State.
The court has adjourned the matter for a formal ruling on the application. Majola is scheduled to reappear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday for the bail judgment.
