ActionSA backs assault accused Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate Xolani Khumalo

ActionSA has thrown its weight behind its Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Xolani Khumalo, as the TV presenter-turned politician prepares to hand himself over to authorities on Monday over an assault case.

Over the past week, there have been reports that police in Katlehong are looking for Khumalo after an assault case was opened against him.

It’s alleged that Khumalo and his entourage beat up a man in the east of Johannesburg during a drug search and seizure operation.

The party has now made counterclaims of harassment against the police.
At this stage, it is still unclear if the alleged assault took place during the taping of the reality TV show Sizok’thola.

The show is hosted by Khumalo.

It follows him and his entourage in a number of crime-busting operations.
ActionSA’s national chairperson, Michael Beaumont, said Khumalo is being punished for his crime activism.

“Upon reading public reports of an intended arrest, Khumalo proactively arranged a meeting with SAPS to establish their intentions in this matter. During this engagement, Khumalo agreed to voluntarily hand himself over on Monday, subjecting himself to what is yet another round of harassment in retaliation by criminals for his war on criminality in Ekurhuleni.”

This is not the first time Khumalo has found himself in the crosshairs of police.

Last year, Khumalo was charged with beating to death Katlehong resident Robert Varrie, allegedly during an interrogation on the show.

However, the charges were later dropped due to insufficient evidence.
