Eskom says it's assisting police with the investigation of a shooting that claimed the life of one of its employees at the Kriel Power Station.
The married couple, who are both employees at the power utility, were attacked at the weekend.
The husband was killed in the attack, while his wife is recovering in hospital.
"We are also providing support to the family and our staff members during this difficult period. We will continue to share relevant updates to the extent possible as information becomes available," said Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena.
While a social media post has since surfaced, claiming the shooting was a targeted hit, Mokwena said the claims are premature and inappropriate.
"We urge the public and media to refrain from repeating unverified claims or speculation, and to allow law enforcement the necessary space to complete their investigation process."
