Earlier this week, Pretorius survived a hail of 16 bullets shot at his car by unknown gunmen outside his home in the East Rand.
Last year, at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, Pretorius was implicated in the testimony of late witness D, Marius van der Merwe. Van der Merwe linked him to the death and torture of a man in Brakpan, whose body was later dumped at a lake in Germiston.
According to Van der Merwe, who was assassinated in December, Pretorius was one of several people involved in the torture and murder of Emmanuel Mbhense in 2022.
Last week, IPID announced it had finalised its investigation into Mbhense's murder and is awaiting instruction from the Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions before making arrests.
