The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry resumes on Monday with a new witness.
To protect witnesses, the commission has adopted a policy of revealing their identities a few minutes before they appear.
The commission was established in 2025 to probe possible criminal interference in the country’s law enforcement and justice sector.
Last week was another round of explosive revelations at the Madlanga Commission.
A senior forensic analyst at the South African Police Service (SAPS), Laurence Makgotloe, accused his fellow officers of kidnapping him and trying to interfere with his investigation into the murder of Armand Swart.
The commission also heard allegations of political interference from senior African National Congress (ANC) leaders for police to arrest controversial entertainment blogger Musa Khawula.
There was also the testimony of SAPS section head for quality management, Rachel Matjeng, who told the commission she was in a romantic relationship with suspected crime boss, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
While Matjeng did not provide any evidence to prove this romantic relationship, she repeatedly insisted that all the money and gifts she received from Matlala were not bribes but romantic gestures.
The Madlanga Commission has moved to phase two of its work, where people with accusations levelled against them by previous witnesses have a chance to respond.
