Ekurhuleni emergency personnel are still investigating the cause of a fire at an auto spares store in Edenvale that prompted its closure for business.

On Tuesday, a blaze caused severe damage to the structure, causing the roof to cave in.

One of the walls also fell to the ground due to the fire, injuring two firefighters who were first responders.

The remaining walls, standing like a shell, have blackened from the heavy smoke that took officials hours to contain.

None of the employees suffered injuries.

Ekurhuleni’s emergency services spokesperson said there are highly flammable materials that were stored in the shop.

“We can confirm what is inside there, oil is sold there from this auto spares, you've got transmission oil, engine and other different oil, and that might aggravate the flammability of the material.”

Police are investigating the matter.
