CoCT says latest anti-corruption sting a warning against bribery
In exchange for the bribe, Roos allegedly wanted access to municipal tenders and the halting of an internal investigation.
Instead of accepting the payment, Mbandazayo alerted the police, who set up a sting operation, and Roos was arrested after allegedly handing over R1.4 million to the city manager.
It remains unclear how Roos is linked to the City of Cape Town, nor what investigation he allegedly attempted to stop.
The city said the latest sting sends a clear warning that bribery will not be tolerated.
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has also praised the city manager’s actions, describing him as a public servant residents can be proud of.
Roos is back in the Cape Town Magistrates Court for information relating to his bail bid.
He previously told the court that he suffers from diabetes and hypertension and requested to be accommodated in the prison hospital wing.
