Calls are mounting for police in Cape Town to step up efforts to stop ongoing bloodshed on the Cape Flats following another bloody weekend across the metro.
Seven mass shootings have been reported in the Mother City since last Saturday, with at least 30 people killed in several shootings over the past week.
Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the deployment of 2,200 soldiers across all nine provinces to assist police in tackling violent crime, organised crime and gangsterism.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape says the level of violence cannot be allowed to become normalised.

DA Western Cape spokesperson on Police Oversight and Community Safety, Benedicta van Minnen, said the brutal acts of violence have left families devastated and communities traumatised.
"Residents across the Cape Flats deserve to feel safe in their neighbourhoods and to live without the constant fear of gun violence. The DA in the Western Cape, therefore, calls for increased policing resources and stronger intelligence-driven operations to address violent crime and gang-related activity in affected communities."
