KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has confirmed that King Misuzulu kaZwelithini was consulted prior to the dissolution of the Ingonyama Trust Board.

On Wednesday, Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Mzwanele Nyhontso announced the dissolution of the board after resignations left it without a quorum.

The board is responsible for administering close to 3 million hectares of KZN land, which generates millions through leases.

However, the board has been marred with allegations of maladministration, legal challenges and governance issues.

The minister has since appointed an administrator to oversee day-to-day operations to maintain administrative stability and operational continuity.

"The Premier further reiterated the Provincial Government’s readiness to work collaboratively with all relevant stakeholders in ensuring that the objectives of the trust are preserved and strengthened, particularly in relation to effective land management, infrastructure development, and the unlocking of economic opportunities within trust-held land," said KZN Premier spokesperson Lindelani Mbatha.

Nyhontso said the transitional administrative arrangement and process to reconstitute the board will be communicated in due course.
