Western Cape police announced a significant breakthrough in the investigation into a series of deadly shootings in Gugulethu following the arrest of four suspects this weekend.

Police confirmed that the four men, aged between 24 and 30, are believed to be linked to two separate murder incidents in the area.

The investigation spans two violent incidents occurring within less than a month of each other. In the first incident, which took place on March 23, police discovered the bodies of a 25-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman in a backyard dwelling on J Nontulo Street, New Cross.

Less than a month later, on April 13, detectives were called to another shooting in the same vicinity where three additional people were found dead.

Police spokesperson André Traut stated that during this second incident, a 46-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were shot multiple times inside a residence, while an unidentified man was found fatally wounded at the front gate of the property.

The arrests followed an intensive operation by law enforcement agencies across multiple precincts. Traut emphasised the collaborative and strategic effort required to track down the suspects and link them to the crime scenes.

"Through meticulous investigation and intelligence-driven operations extending across the Nyanga policing precinct and into Khayelitsha, the teams were able to piece together crucial evidence that ultimately linked the suspects to both crime scenes. SAPS remains committed to ensuring that those responsible for violent crime are brought to justice."

The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to appear in court as the investigation continues.
