Gauteng motorists are warned to remain vigilant as unstable weather conditions settle in the province from on Tuesday and are expected to persist into the rest of the week.
Johannesburg metro police said the city may experience severe thunderstorms, persistent heavy rain and localised flooding.
Meanwhile, Tshwane emergency services has also warned communities to exercise caution after a level four warning for severe thunderstorms was issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS).
Parts of the country have experienced inclement weather that started over the past weekend.
Metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla has cautioned motorists against crossing bridges or where water is flowing over the surface.
“Motorists are reminded that even shallow-looking water can have enough force to sweep a vehicle off the road. We strongly encourage the public to stay informed by monitoring real-time traffic updates and official weather alerts to ensure safer travel within the city and surrounding areas.”
