The City of Cape Town has allocated R6.8 billion to its Department of Safety and Security.
Mayco Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said the funds will be used to upgrade a range of security infrastructure, including CCTV cameras and fire stations.

He said R1 million has been set aside to procure new CCTV cameras, while R12 million will be used to upgrade the existing network.
"For the last few years, all of the camera rollout has gone to the highest crime rate areas, except that which is funded by ward allocation budgets, where the local ward budget specifically is providing for cameras. Ideally, we want to be in the realm of about 25 million for CCTV."
Smith said the city’s road safety budget has also been boosted.
"We are spending [R]14 million on a law enforcement and safety and security based on Stellenbosch Arterial Road to serve Delft and Belhar."
