Joburg EMS on high alert for any emergencies this long weekend

The Johannesburg Emergency Services is on high alert this long weekend as cold and wet weather coats the city.
In vulnerable and low-lying areas, especially informal settlements, residents are warned to keep a close eye on children and stay away from rivers and streams.
Motorists are advised to drive with care, keep a safe following distance and avoid flooded roads and low-lying bridges.

EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi has urged residents to also use heating devices cautiously and never leave them unattended to prevent unnecessary fires.
"We are on high alert throughout this long weekend to ensure that we can be able to respond to any water-related or fire emergencies which might occur throughout this long weekend. Our residents are encouraged to call our emergency management services command and control center on 011-375-5911 for any life-threatening emergencies."
