The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa is calling on citizens to register online for the upcoming local government elections set for 4 November.

The commission says people who are not yet registered, as well as those who have moved to a new area, should make sure they are registered in the voting district where they normally live. This is important because voters are only allowed to cast their ballots at the voting station where they are registered.
If they are unable to make use of the online registration service, they can also visit voting stations during the national voter registration weekend on 20 and 21 June.
These are at the same locations they will use on election day.
President Cyril Ramaphosa recently announced the election date. However, the commission explained that his announcement is not the final step.
The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs will issue a formal proclamation on the election date. At that point, the voters’ roll will be closed.
