Chris Hani’s killer Janusz Walus to be deported to Poland

JOHANNESBURG - The convicted assassin of the late South African Communist Party (SACP) General-Secretary, Chris Hani, will be deported to Poland on Friday.

Janusz Walus was out on parole following the Constitutional Court judgment that ordered former Minister of Justice Ronald Lamola to grant him parole.

He was found guilty of murdering Hani at the cusp of South Africa’s transition to democracy in 1993.

Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni outlined the deportation process: “Today, the 6th of December 2024, the parole period of Janusz Walus has come to an end in line with the Constitutional Court decision. 

“Since Janusz Walus no longer holds any South African enabling documents, the Department of Home Affairs will be deporting him. This [Friday] morning, the national commissioner of Correctional Services will formally hand over Janusz Walus to the Department of Home Affairs for deportation.”
