Eight Milnerton High School learners charged with various counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm are due back in the Cape Town magistrates' court on Tuesday.

Six of the accused were granted bail, while two underage learners who face the same charges are in the custody of their parents.

The accused learners face charges related to at least eight incidents of alleged assault at Milnerton High School, including a video that went viral on social media.

After being granted bail, the eight accused learners were barred from Milnerton High School and provided an alternative venue to write their final exams.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila explains some of the bail conditions.

"They must not directly or indirectly contact the witnesses of the complainants. They must not approach them. If they see the complainant,s they must walk away."

The accused were also ordered to hand in their cellphones as evidence in the investigation.
