Hill-Lewis wants to remain CoCT mayor even if he becomes DA federal leader

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis wants to remain the city’s mayor, even if he's elected federal leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA).
Hill-Lewis officially entered the race to become the party's federal leader last Friday, hoping to take over from current party leader John Steenhuisen.
Democrats will go to congress to elect new leadership in April.

Despite his national ambitions, Hill-Lewis said he has no plans to step down as the Mayor of Cape Town.
He describes the mayoral role as something he loves, and an incredibly meaningful job.
"I've enjoyed every minute of it and fully intend to finish my term and stand as a mayoral candidate for the DA in Cape Town again at the end of the year."
