This year marks the centenary of Afrikaans as an official language.

To coincide with that, an 8-part documentary series will be shown on kykNET (DStv Channel 144), celebrating everything Afrikaans.

Die Stories van Afrikaans features archival material and over 100 influential voices, and traces the fascinating true stories of those that have shaped the language over four centuries in Africa.

"We try to give an absolute kaleidoscopic view of the language in eight episodes."
- Danie Marais, Co-Content Editor - Die Stories van Afrikaans
"The biggest tragedy of the history of Afrikaans is the fact that it was claimed and appropriated by one group of the speakers."
- Danie Marais, Co-Content Editor - Die Stories van Afrikaans
"That estranged and detached so many people who were speakers of the language, and still are struggling to find their way back to it."
- Danie Marais, Co-Content Editor - Die Stories van Afrikaans

The series is produced by Bonanza Films and each episode is narrated by an A-list actor.

Famous faces appearing in the series include Sandra Prinsloo, Zane Meas, Albert Pretorius, June van Merch, Dean Balie, Frank Opperman, Lee-Ann van Rooi and Tinarie van Wyk Loots.
