Slain Pretty Mahlangu case: Accused faces additional charges including murder

The culpable homicide case against a woman accused of deliberately running over a group of teenagers, has taken a shocking turn.

Martha van der Walt (68) now faces three additional charges including a murder charge.

She is accused of ploughing her car into a group of young girls during a coming-of-age ceremony in Diwindie.

She is currently appearing in the Germiston Magistrates Court.

What began as a culpable homicide case has now turned into a murder case.

She also faces additional charges of attempted murder and failure to stop after driving through a group of people.

Van der walt faces four charges in total.

The prosecution made the decision to add the additional charges after reviewing video footage of the incident, where the accused is allegedly seen driving through a group of girls.

Pretty Mahlangu (15) died on her way to hospital after the incident.

Proceedings are continuing.
