The energy is high in the Sundowns camp as they eye a ninth PSL title win as the 2025/26 season gets underway on Saturday (9 August).

Onyango will return to the goalposts to extend his history-making stint at the club.

The 40-year-old holds 12 PSL titles, nine with Sundowns and three with SuperSport United, as well as a Champions League title.

Onyango says he is highly motivated and remains passionate about the game and, more importantly, the team.

“For me, it is not only about playing, but also about helping the team. But when given the opportunity… I have to keep myself ready for every challenge.”

He recently returned from his home country, Uganda, where he offered goalkeeping assistance to the national team ahead of the CAF Africa National Champion (CHAN).

Onyango says he would venture into coaching if the opportunity came.

“If given the opportunity, I would try and improve and get more keepers into the PSL… and to try and pass on the knowledge that I’ve gotten from the club to the youngsters.”

Basadien will make his PSL debut for Sundowns, following an impressive season at Stellenbosch FC.

He already made his debut in the MTN8 quarterfinal clash against Richards Bay, where Sundowns secured a 4-0 victory to advance to the semifinals.

Basadien was highly sought after during the transfer window with heavy links to Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and Orlando Pirates.

“It’s a privilege… it was a resemblance of what I was doing on the pitch and recognition from all the club… It was a good feeling… but my mind and focus were always at Sundowns.”
