Gauteng Health Dept: 11 people have died from suspected food poisoning since October

JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Health Department said a total of eleven people, including children, had died in the province from suspected cases of food poisoning since October 2023.
This came after a grade one pupil died, and four others were hospitalised in Tsakane, east of Johannesburg, on Tuesday.

"The provincial and district outbreak response team has also been on the ground conducting investigations, public health education, and food safety blitz at the spaza shops in Tsakane to raise awareness and allay the public’s fears regarding alleged food poisoning,” said spokesperson Motalatale Modiba.
