Alleged serial killer Sifiso Mkhwanazi's confession to the murders admissible, court rules

JOHANNESBURG - The Johannesburg High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Friday handed down a ruling to use a confession made by alleged serial killer Sifiso Mkhwanazi. 

The court held a trial within a trial to determine the admissibility of Mkhwanazi’s confession made to his father, Mark Khumalo.

The confession will now be officially used against him in his main trial underway at the same court.

Mkhwanazi confessed to smothering five women and shooting a sixth one. The six victims who are all dead are believed to be sex workers.

Their bodies were dumped at Mkhwanazi’s father's panel-beating business in the Joburg CBD.

Judge Cassem Moosa:

"The conversation that took place between Mkhwanazi and Khumalo was made freely without any influence. The court rules that the confession is admissible in law against the accused."

Mkhwanazi's father Khumalo was back on the stand testifying against his son.
