For the first time in 75 years, Mattel is introducing a significant update to the beloved Scrabble board game, unveiling a new gameplay option.
This innovative release features a double-sided board: one side retains the classic game for traditionalists, while the flip side offers a 'less competitive' variant tailored to appeal to Gen Z gamers.
The alternative version, known as Scrabble Together, incorporates helper cards for guidance, cues and hints. It also adopts a simplified scoring system, accelerates gameplay, and permits team participation.
Despite its enhancements, some X users say the game has been reduced to 'Scrabble for Snowflakes' and 'Woke Scrabble'.
Conventional scoring has also been replaced, with players now aiming to accomplish goals and obtain goal cards instead.
The victor is determined by the completion of 20 challenges, marking the conclusion of the game once 20 goal cards have been achieved.
