The DA’s mayoral candidate in Tshwane, Cilliers Brink, has said corruption will have no place in the city if he is elected mayor.
The metro has recently come under scrutiny at the Madlanga Commission of inquiry, particularly over procurement irregularities and alleged tender fraud.
Chief financial officer Gareth Mnisi is currently suspended after being implicated, while former ActionSA councillor Kholofelo Morodi was fired from the party over her alleged involvement in attempts to manipulate tenders.
Speaking in Mamelodi on Friday, while outlining his election pledges ahead of the upcoming municipal polls, brink vowed to root out corruption in the city.
"We will fire corrupt officials and tenderpreneurs, and we will replace them with honest and hard-working professionals. We will create an anti-corruption hit squad that will put the fear of god into the tsotsis currently looting tshwane house. Those investigators will work with businesses and civil society – reporting directly to the mayor and city manager, they will operate independently from the very systems that have been compromised," said Brink
