CAPE TOWN - Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has welcomed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the murder of city official, Wendy Kloppers.
The woman was shot and killed at the Delft Symphony Way housing project site in February last year.
The shooting was part of a string of violent attacks, including a petrol bombing, directed at the housing project.
Police said that a 40-year-old suspect handed himself over to authorities and he is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
Hill-Lewis said he hoped this arrest was the first step towards justice.
"I'm very pleased to hear the news of the arrest of one of the murderers responsible for the killing of a City of Cape Town staff member, Ms Wendy Kloppers. That murder resulted in the stopping of the Delft Symphony Way housing project and the beneficiaries, more than 3,000 people who've been waiting for those homes, have had that project delayed as a result of this murder."
