JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Department of Education has set Thursday as the commencement date for grades 1 and 8 online applications for 2025.
The province’s Education MEC Matome Chiloane made the announcement during an address at Noordwyk Secondary School in Midrand on Tuesday.
Chiloane said the system had improved, adding that it is user-friendly.
“The system is going to go live on Thursday, 11 July at 8 am and is going to close on 12 August 2024 at midnight,” he said.

The process, which has been marred by delays and errors, saw 21,000 Gauteng pupils unplaced at the beginning of 2024.
Despite the cold weather, pupils at Noordwyk High are beaming with smiles, happy to see their friends after the long school holidays.
The children will sit for their first lessons this week, officially starting the new school term.
ELECTIONS DELAYED ONLINE APPLICATION SYSTEM
Chiloane further attributed the setbacks in the system to the general elections and the formation of the seventh administration thereafter.
“General elections and post elections we had to set up government then we can start the process."
The process usually gets underway in June but this time around things had to change to allow for the formation of a new provincial cabinet.
Chiloane has returned to the provincial government heading two portfolios: education and sport.
