Brink to write to NERSA rejecting Eskom's proposed 40% electricity tariff hike

The power utility has again come under fire for its proposed hike in electricity prices, which it plans to implement in April next year. 

JOHANNESBURG - Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink said he intends to write to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA), rejecting Eskom's bid for a 40% tariff increase.

Brink said unreasonable tariff increases would put a financial burden on residents.

"We do have an affordability crisis in this country. We can't put consumers under more pressure. And I'll be fighting with other municipalities to make sure that the increase that is approved is reasonable," said Brink.
