Police arrest almost 14,000 people for various crimes during Operation Shanela

CAPE TOWN - Almost 14,000 people have been arrested for various crimes during Operation Shanela countrywide in the past week.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) says over 2.800 of those arrested were wanted for crimes such as murder, rape, and business robberies among other crimes.
It adds that one of the highlights was the arrest of a Zambian national linked to a R300 million drug bust at OR Tambo International Airport.
Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said that counterfeit goods worth R37 million and drugs worth R1 million were seized in Joburg and Gqeberha respectively.
"Police will continue with our operation in stamping the authority of the state, to ensure the safety and security of all people living in South Africa."
