CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town said it is inundated with thousands of complaints about reckless taxi drivers on a monthly basis.
The municipality said the grievances include operators driving on the roadway's shoulder and stopping or parking inconsiderately.
Safety and Security MMC JP Smith said despite issuing fines to taxi drivers, the behaviour doesn't seem to change.
Smith, however, said the municipality would continue to execute its constitutional mandate of enforcing traffic laws.
"We will ensure that we are able to step up our enforcement operations against those who continue to place the lives of their passengers and other road users at risk."
In the first ten days of October, the metro impounded over 400 taxis for violating traffic laws.
