WATCH: 'Fire above Clovelly!' - Firewatch Cape Town

On Monday, 30 December 2024, in a short video clip posted to a Facebook group called Firewatch Cape Town, a local named Freddie Herbst captured what seems like a fire on a mountain in the Kalk Bay area.

The post's initial caption read: "Fire above Clovelly. I can't get through to the fire station."

About half an hour after the clip was posted, according to the comments section, fire services were on the way to the scene. "Fire helicopter just came to land at Fish Hoek, on their way shortly," said one Facebook user. 

Other users also rushed to the comments section to share pictures of the fire from their point of view.
