DURBAN - The Cooperative Governance Department in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) is set to release forensic reports on corruption, fraud and maladministration linked to some municipalities in the province.
The reports, expected to be published next week, come after COGTA conducted investigations and, in some cases, recommended disciplinary action against senior officials.
The uThukela district and Endumeni local municipalities have come out as some of the most problematic.
Cooperative Governance MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi said: "In Uthukela District Municipality you find that there were repairs that were conducted without proper authorisation and in some instances consulting companies were paid more than R15.5 million without any procurement processes having taken place."
He added that there was also wrongdoing in the appointment process.
"If you look at Endumeni, you find non-compliant with regulation 32 where companies especially security companies appointed without any competitive bidding process followed."
