Mchunu expected to visit Soshanguve community in wake of mass shooting

JOHANNESBURG - Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu is expected to visit the Soshanguve community on Tuesday in the wake of a mass shooting that left five people dead over the weekend.
Authorities said a group of community policing forum (CPF) members were stoned and shot during clashes with suspected criminals at the Marry Me informal settlement on Saturday. Seven others remain hospitalised.

In response to the tragedy, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi visited the community and has given police 72 hours to apprehend the perpetrators, while Mchunu has strongly condemned the attack.
During the visit, the minister, accompanied by Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni, will provide an update on the investigation and police response.
Ministry spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi said the minister will also meet with affected families.
“The minister of police will receive a briefing on the ongoing investigations and response efforts from the provincial commissioner. Following this, the minister will visit the affected families to offer condolences and support during this difficult time.”
