After an intense season of ups, downs and dramatic surprises, Akhonamathemba Mbele, also known as Sweet Guluva, was crowned the winner of Big Brother Mzansi season five.
After 10 weeks, the 23-year-old from KwaZulu-Natal walked away with the title and a R2 million cash prize after viewers rallied behind him.
Speaking to 947’s Drive With Thando team, he says he was taken aback by the support outside of the house.
“I can only be very much appreciative of everything. I have never experienced this [support].”

His strategy going into the house was simply to be himself.
Having walked away with the ultimate title, it is clear viewers took a liking to his humbleness.
“[I am] only myself. I love my family and everyone, and where I am from, humbleness is what I was taught. I am not faking anything.”

He also captivated audiences with his romance with Ash-ley Ogle.
The pair were tied at the hip until she was eliminated with the help of Mbhele’s friend.
“It wasn’t nice seeing her leave, but I think in the house, it was a game. So, if you eliminate for yourself to win, it is understandable… But it was hurtful.”
