JOHANNESBURG - South Africans can breathe a sigh of relief as power supplier Eskom says it does not anticipate any load shedding for the winter period.

The utility said its systems remained stable as they were supported by adequate emergency reserves that would manage periods of high demand.

In this financial year, Eskom has reported a decrease of unplanned outages.

Spokesperson, Daphne Mokoena, said that their reliance on diesel usage was also decreasing.

"Eskom presented its winter outlook on 5 May 2025 for the period ending 31 August 2025 and it remains in effect. We do not anticipate the implementation of load shedding if unplanned outages remain below 13,000MW. If outages increase to 15,000MW, load shedding would be limited to a maximum of 21 days out of 153 days at Stage 2, an improvement over the prior winter’s worst-case scenario prediction of Stage 5 load shedding."
