JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have opened an inquest into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the murder of an 11-year-old boy from Fleurhof, west of Johannesburg.

Jayden Lee's body was found on a staircase leading to the front door of his home at the Swazi's Place complex in the area on Wednesday morning.

This comes after his family and community members were on an extensive search for him on Tuesday after he didn't return home from school.

SAPS spokesperson Mavela Masondo met with the boy’s distraught family on Wednesday afternoon, who were flanked by angry residents of the apartment block demanding answers

Masondo said that police were investigating the matter.

"The provincial commissioner instructed his deputy who's responsible for crime detection, that a team must be established immediately to get what happened to the child. And indeed, the team was established from the provincial office, seasoned detectives for that matter, that they must take over the investigation."
